Request / Problem
A Bay Area lumber yard needed to upgrade their storage system; fast. They weren't looking for a local supplier; they were looking for a racking partner who could deliver the right cantilever system on a short lead time, regardless of location. The goal was to make better use of the existing yard footprint. The roof supports came out of the design process, the right system for this yard happened to be a cantilever rack built to carry its own overhead coverage.
Solution
Speedrack West designed and installed two separate cantilever systems across two phases, each covering a different section of the yard. Phase 1 used a 20-foot-tall cantilever system with an 8-foot roof overhang, keeping stacked lumber dry without a standalone structure. Phase 2 added a double-sided 18-foot cantilever system with 4 arm levels per column and roof trusses, covering a second section of the yard as inventory expanded. Both systems were built for outdoor exposure from day one.

Process Overview
Phase 1: First Section of the Yard
The client needed weather-protected storage for long lumber on one side of the yard. Speedrack West installed a 20-foot-tall cantilever system with an 8-foot roof overhang, permanent coverage without a separate building.
Phase 2: Expanding to a Second Section
As inventory grew, the client came back. Speedrack West installed a double-sided 18-foot cantilever system with 4 arm levels per column and roof trusses in a separate section of the yard, using the same outdoor protection approach as in Phase 1.
